System MemoryFor servers there are different variances of server memory. Some can be ECC which is error correction memory which helps a server automatically repairs the errors in the memory as it runs so no reboot or reset is required. Your server can stay on for 24/7. Some are NON-ECC. Of course the higher the speeds of the memory the better performance you get out of them. In servers some servers use the memory as a data cache to help read and writes speeds are higher when copying data from one source to another. ChassisIf we are talking about server building. Mostly servers come in cases called chassis. They come in different heights starting with 1U-4U. Lets say you have a 1u server chassis with server hardware. Your limited on what you can fit in a 1U chassis compared to lets say a 4u chassis. a 4u Chassis can hold multiple of different kind of storage drives or even network cards, video cards, raid cards. The size of a chassis takes up space in a server rack or cabinet which is measured by RU that stands for "Rack Units". Another note is that all servers dont have to be in a server chassis. They can be in just a standalone computer case. It just comes down the functionality of the device it self that gives it that "Server" title.Topics: 0, Posts: 0

Server PSUWhen you think power supply for a computer is a lot different than a power supply for a server. For a server it comes in different sizes to match the size of the server chassis. As for a computer the most common is a form factor ATX. For smaller power supplies they measure in size like the SFX, Flex ATX or TFX. When it comes to server sizes, 1u will have its own 1u power supply size. Anything above that should be able to use a standard ATX power supply that's cable modular or not. Server grade power supply can also be redundant. In a single PSU housing it can have 2 modules which equal the same amount of wattage deliverance to the server. If one fails the other proceeds to give power to the server. These are mostly more expensive than a standard ATX power supply. Disk DrivesYou can never have enough space. Server grade hardware is always best when having storage servers or for any server. In most cases it's always best to pick enterprise hard drives. They have a higher read/writes speeds and they are meant to be running 24/7. You can setup these drives in RAID arrays. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. It's a storage technology that combines multiple hard drives into a single logical unit. RAID can improve performance, reliability, and data protection. RAID writes data across multiple drives. Different RAID levels, such as RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 5, have different configurations. Each RAID level provides a different balance of performance, reliability, and storage capacity. Some RAID levels use mirroring to protect data, while others use parity data to reconstruct lost data. Enterprise drives can cost a little more than regular everyday consumer drives. You can use regular drives as well. Just not recommended. You dont always have to buy new since enterprise drives cost so much. There is nothing wrong with buying certified reconditioned.
